MIKROSUM 32 tested at El Local Estudi de gravació
Hi!
On Past Monday 27/07/2020, Thanks to Marc Piña, owner of the Recording Studio El Local estudi de gravació in Girona (www.localestudi.com), I had the opportunity to test my Summing mixer design in a big Studio.
I choosed this studio because they have an SSL Duality Delta 48ch console, so I could be sure that we can compare the sound quality of the Mikrosum 32 summing mixer against the console.
The Studio itself was designed by Jules Newell. It is a studio type called "Non environment" with wall fitted main speakers, and a pair of EVE Audio Sc305 nearfield monitors, that, after Marc Piña, represent just a Downscaled version of the Main monitors. So true.!!
When I designed the Mikrosum 32 i thought to offer the choice of a cristal clear sound of the Electronically balanced line driver output, or a more vibey transformer output.
We setup the Mikrosum 32 with 8 inputs (4 stereo pairs) coming from an Antelope audio Orion 32 converter, and a protools session with a track they were mixing. Also we made the patchbays connections so we could monitor both the Mix output from the Summing mixer and from the Duality console.
After all the setup was made, we played a loop of the track, first through the Duality console, and after through the Mikrosum 32.....we couldn't hear any difference!!! ...but there was more...Marc Piña engaged the transformer output...the sound was...¡WOW!, we all noticed the low end response!!...i felt accomplished!, really!!.
After talking about some design aspects and features, i was suggested to add signal present leds to ensure audio signal is comming in the inputs, and output vumeters...
So, now I'm making the mods to add these features and expect to have soon the finished prototype. Feel free to contact me, drop a message or email, and I will answer your questions.
